A Royal Jubilee
SMALL in stature but big on Christ, singer Royal Routes (Everet Dyce) has never let poliomyelitis hold him back.
He gave a command performance on August 3 at Jubilee Village, held at the National Stadium.
Routes had the audience on its feet as he belted out I've Got to Be Dreaming. Many got caught in the moment when he sang, "I've got to be dreaming, about a love like this and if I'm even dreaming, then I wanna dream the rest of my life..."
"This song does it for me," said one woman who, during his performance, had her arms outstretched and eyes closed.
Royal Routes' stint included other favourites such as Jesus Set Me Free and God's People.
It took another foundation gospel artiste, the Rev Glen Graham, to keep the momentum going. He immediately connected with Oh if I Miss Heaven, then went into I Don't Want Satan To Be My Friend, Prepare To Meet Me There and Six Men Bringing You Back.
Edwin Myers and the Love Singers completed a strong showing by the veterans, before making way for younger acts including Noreta Lewis, Kerron Ennis, Lubert Levy, Judith Gayle and Prodigal Son.
Earlier, there were performances from 2012 Gospel Festival finalists Nickette Morgan, Lee Roy Johnson, Miriam Hibbert and winner Levy's Heritage.
