Graphic artist and animator Reinardo 'Mental' Chung is slowly buying time aiming to be the best he can in his chosen field

The 30-year-old St Ann's Bay native is the owner/operator of Mental Chung Creative Labs which aims at providing services in the world of graphics and animation.

"I taught myself everything as there are no major local institution that teaches all of this. Therefore, I read what I could on the internet and purchase books," he told the Jamaica Observer.

In 2011, he was the winner in the category Best Short Film Series at the Reggae Film Festival for his piece Bad Influence. The Dutty Bwoy series followed and the animated comical episodes have so far gained over three millions views on YouTube and is now available on DVD.

Chung said due to the popularity of the series, the demand for animated characters in music videos are steadily increasing and so far, his work has been highlighted in music videos such as Vybz Kartel's High and Tommy Lee's Captain Sparta and Bad Gyal Medley.

"My aim for the series was to promote my work. I am still a work in progress and my biggest achievement is yet to come," he stated.

According the work of a graphic artist can be costly as materials for each project can be very expensive.

"It can be very profitable also as a 30-second advertisement can go at an average cost of $60,000. It's a lot of work though," he added.
