Thursday, October 04, 2012

A gospel concert, a fashion show, and a road march are among the list of activities slated for a Jamaica 50 celebratory event to be held in Portmore, St Catherine, this weekend .

The event — organised by the Portmore New Testament Church in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and the Portmore Municipal Council — is scheduled for October 6-7 under the theme: "The church on a mission: Celebrating the past, preserving the future."

The first day of the event will see gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards in performance at the concert on the church grounds in Bayside, Portmore.

Meanwhile, the fashion show is expected to look at trends throughout the year.

Other highlights for the two-day event include a children's village, cooking demonstrations and an exhibit. There will also be a Christian heritage zone featuring several ministries, including Brothers of the Poor.

Students from secondary and tertiary institutions in and around the community will not be left out of the action. There will also be a "write and win" competition which allows them to write a 1,200-word essay intended to be utilised for the panel discussion.
