Cobra shot; Oneil still critical
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Reports are that deejay Ewart Brown, more popularly known as Mad Cobra, was last evening admitted to the Spanish Town hospital suffering from gun shot wounds.
Information, up to press time was sketchy, but one source close to the deejay said he was shot in the upper body, close to the shoulder.
"Him get two shot in the shoulder and he's at Spanish Town (hospital)," the source said.
Cobra is the second artiste in as many days to be shot.
Meanwhile, the condition of singer Oneil Edwards of the group Voicemail, was still listed as critical, as he battles for life at the Kingston Public Hospital.
However, reports are that the singer's vital signs have stabilised and the swelling on the brain had decreased.
Yesterday, friends of Edwards in the music fraternity, held a second vigil, this time at the hospital, where they sang and prayed for the singer's recovery. Among the persons present were Stone Love selector, Geefus, Macka Diamond, Ashley Martin, Bugle, Raine, Nicky B, Mr Vegas and D'Angel.
The 36-year-old Edwards was shot all over the body and in the head by unknown attackers about 1:30 Monday morning.
According to reports, one finger was shot off and the bullet which struck him in the head had fragmented and was causing swelling in the brain. — Yasmine Peru

poeple are under the impression that this is a direct attack on artistes but I beg to differ...cobra was involved and an altercation and like most altercations nowadays end up in bloodshed......as a person that listen both kartel and movado and is "in the street" partially, i think that they do have a hand in the violence. Doug Campbell sounds like one of the "others" he is reffering to in his blog Oneil wasn't a bad person he did not promote violence in his song so its really unfair for you to say that the chicken has come back to the roost.

Doug, who ever stop you from "Dougging" or someone from "dougging" you why you think that the artiste are intolerable? I think the group you support is more intolerable to Ja's open rejection of a certain lifestyle. The #s never lie and it is a statistical fact that 'intolorable'Jamaicans never kill those of that group. anyways, I hope though that these Artiste will eventually start to understand the meaning of music.

the cartoon in today Observer sd it alll.....i hope nothing but the best for these DJ.....

I dont mind if they all erradicate each other. I feel no pity for any of them becuase they are reaping what they sow. When gunmen invade an entire community and turn the lives of ordinary Jamaicans upside down, it is the product that these lunatics nurture being brought to fruition.
I will be happy If i can go a day without hearing these illiterates being glorified in the way they are each day. It is unfortunate because this young man may have a family depending on him and God knows i feel it for him there and wish he recovers but I also hope this will help to spur change in the music culture becuase this greatly influences our youngsters who eventually come up to commit these acts because they lack the will and smarts to create opportunity for themselves. Blame the gov't for that right?
If a few more of them have to get shot to let it happen then its just collateral damage. The tide flows the other way for ordinary Jamaicans when these "superstars" flourish.
What a mess

I wonder why tupac and biggy were killed in america.
Maybe dem involved in a dem personal mix up.
I don't think i should interfere.

No, no, no, people! You are all just too uneducated to understand! Dancehall is just a "text", a harmless ritual! Its not real!

Eeh, dem attack the Big Snake. Problem a road, mek we see how this unfold nuh. The hungry man dem a road a look it star....Back in Tosh and Marley's reign, there were no violent lyrics, so what caused the crime? Most of us bloggers are dumb to blame the violence on the artistes. Things would still be the same even if reggae/dancehall as a genre was never created. Our leaders and other outside forces who have supplied the guns are the real criminals. You know how tough it is to be an entertainer in Jamaica when all the 'sufferers' expect you to finance them because 'you a mek money a road'? Get off the entertainers and address the real issue people... Quick recovery Snake bout more prayer for Oneil. Pull thru mi yute.

Cobra & Voicemail may God blessings be with both of you and you families during this difficult period." If the people who are called by name would HUMBLE themslves and pray and turned from their wicked ways then I'll hear from them and heal the land". This is my hope & desire that God will somehow be a part of the healing process in JAMAICA.

When the few good Jamaicans that were concerned took a stand against the level of Gun salute, Bus Shot in a Babylon boy head and Informer fi dead and intolerance to others that was being preached every day by Mavado, Vybz Cartel and the rest of semi-illiterate low-lifes posing as artists they were told to shut up "because De youth dem a practice dem culture". Even one so-called intellectual who claims to be an "expert on reggae culture" supported them because they are expressing themselves as africans. Now the chickens have come home to roost. I am sad that this happens to this Mad Cobra , but i am hoping that some good can come out of this evil and this will be the turning point in the campaign against, gun lyrics, gun violence and intolerance to others.

Sorry to hear what happen to Cobra and O’Neil over the last 72 hours. Lets pray they live to realize the gun, gangster and anti-informant culture they and many other DJs have being supporting over the years are not limited to certain people.
Artistes in my opinion have the strongest voice across our society but too many times they used this voice to convey violent and slack messages. They are partly responsible for the ugly monster called crime in Jamaica today don’t matter how Vybes Kartel denies (check out the BBC interview last week) it. Art imitates life likewise life imitates art.
It’s time to put to rest the “gangsta fo life” culture and don’t wait until you or one of your “friend” (some a dem a enemy) is gun down.

Think today's cartoon by the observer is ill-timed and extremely insensitive as entertainers battle for their lives
5/12/2010
observer not one of my comment, please dont do that to me.

The following comment should not be considered as nourishment for pasa-pasa, but unlike singers (Tarrus Riley, Cocoa Tea and Wayne Wonder) who always seem to make sense with their gifted tongues, DJs, for the most part, consistently use their crafts to big up wicked men and increase the revenues of morticians. By the way, what’s up wid dis prayer thing? Unno think a suh God work! Every day sick heads DJs a run up and dung pon stage a talk bout Klans & One Order, and now that the table has turned, they (DJs) are asking the creator to intervene, cauz shottas a camp out a dem gates. No brethrens, the great redeemer sey, ‘a gunman alone keeps gunman fren, sun unno hafi find a way fi reconcile unno differences. Peace!
5/12/2010
Well well the chicken has come home to roost, this what the gun talk that all the artistes is alwatys preaching in these street of jamaica ,check to see if yiu uys change your tune and you will see a change in life of people you guys have being biging up all the times, MAN FE DEAD GUN SHOT FE BUST IN INFORMER HEAD ,now we want some one to inform to the police you are the cowards who have done these senseless acts,so again the atristes preach informer fe deaad ,but today the want justice ,how sad know the the shoe is on the right foot now

5/12/2010
anybody wants to be a killer in jamaica can do as they will. it is lawful to be a criminal in jamaica.these artist supports these dons too much and also these people in these communities once they are getting benefits crime is not their business.who is next?
5/12/2010
Oneil and Cobra all the best. For rest of the fraternity
(DJs etc)

The gun ting is not a fun ting it cause perrill for all Jamaicans.
5/12/2010
KAKKA!!!!!! Jumaker is imploding...there is NO solution to this problem which was created and nurtured by successive government administration.
5/12/2010
only hope normal ppl can get the same justicejustice when they get or kill or injury......cobra and oniel get well soon and come back and try to tackle theses gun mens bc they might come back again
5/12/2010
Oneil and Cobra, hope unnu get thru this in one piece. Yard dread; nobody nuh safe...
Too bad it's not the politicians them a turn the gun on, after all they're the policy makers, and the reasons why so many guns on the street. The politicians are also the ones harboring and unleashing these gunmen on the defenseless citizens...
5/12/2010
All i want you guys as artistes is to take a page out of Shaggy book and this might not have have to someone like Madcobra why all of is songs have gun lirics in it
5/12/2010
now they know that life seeds we sow. its a pitty that oniel had to get shot because i have never heard that group (voicemail) singing any violent song. the grim reaper is coming. its full time Jamicans be bold and stand for something good. stand for love of country stand for life and love. DJs find something good to sing about its over seas you make your money and they want positive songs. your minds are norrow
5/12/2010
So now the entertainers are under attack !
Well the violence has cum full circle, from the screaming DJ who says informer fi dead and gunS$ot fi lick.
Now I am sure entertainers wants people to go give information to the police so they can find out who is trying to get them killed.
Cock mouth kill cock !!
5/12/2010
