The Power of Love, the winning song performed by X Factor UK 2018 champion Dalton Harris and 2012 winner James Arthur, debuted at number four on the British Singles Chart yesterday. It is a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 1984 hit which topped the British pop chart.
The original was certified gold in the United Kingdom.
Harris' version, which was available online shortly after the X Factor UK finale last Sunday, topped the UK iTunes chart within hours. The song is also number one in Scotland and 35 in Ireland.
Clarendon-born Harris is among X Factor UK winners who enjoyed success immediately following the talent competition. Some went on to bigger things.
The 2005 winner Shayne Ward has to date released three albums, two of which were certified platinum in the UK. He also has six UK Top 15 hits.
Leona Lewis, the 2006 winner, has had hits with Bleeding Love and Better in Time. She has 10 Top 10 singles, three of which went number one. Her debut album, Spirit, has sold 10 million copies.
Alexandra Burke, who won in 2008, has six Top 10 hits, three of which reached number one, including Start Without You with Laza Morgan. Her debut album, Overcome, has been certified double platinum.
2011 winners, girl group Lil Mix, have scored five Top 10 albums including a UK number one. They have 20 Top 20 hits to their credit.
James Arthur, who won in 2012, has released two studio albums. Both have sold platinum in the UK and produced seven Top 20 singles.
Interestingly, the X Factor UK's biggest success story were not winners. Boy group One Direction finished third in 2010 and have gone on to sell more than 15 million records worldwide including 15 Top 20 hit singles, two of which topped the UK chart.
One Direction have recorded seven albums. Each entered the UK Album chart, five of them going to number one.
Olly Murs finished second in 2009. He has six Top 10 albums, four of them going number one.
Boy band JLS came second the previous year. Their self-titled debut album sold 1.4 million copies in the UK; they have released five Top 10 albums and 12 Top 20 singles.
Singer Ella Henderson finished sixth in 2012. Her credentials include five UK Top 10 hits (one of which hit number one). She has released one studio album, Chapter One, which went platinum.
