Favourite Dennis Brown tunes

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Monday, February marked the birthday of the Crown Prince of Reggae, Dennis Emmanuel Brown (February 1, 1957 - July 1, 1999). It is said that D Brown, as he was affectionately called, recorded more than 75 albums during his career, which started when he was 11 years old. It's a fact that good music lives on forever and today we ask a few people to share with us their favourite D Brown song.

Cassandra -- Ken Boothe

I love it so much because I sing love songs and it's a lovely one.

Foundation -- Richie Stephens

When I was growing up, I used to go to the bar in the community, they used to play it from the jukebox. I got my first experience as a performer as they used to gather around to hear me sing it.

Wolf and Leopards -- George Nooks

This is a really great song and I just love it.

Have You Ever -- Newell Morgan

I love it because of the rhythm. With a rhythm like that, you just want to get out there and find out what this love thing is about.

Revolution -- Ity (from Ity and Fancy Cat)

It's talking about change, rebelling against the system that oppresses black people, I love the sentiments expressed in it.

Silhouette -- Bar-Bee

Because it brings back great memories -- the happy moments. It has me smiling from ear to ear. It will change anyone's mood.

Here I Come -- Ce'Cile

That was the song that used to play every 12 midnight at Merrymaker Club in Mandeville. I fell in love with it from back then, I think I am going to do a cover of it soon.

Silhouette -- Lady Saw

I love it because it's such a great song.

Promised Land -- Prophecy

I love it because of the physical attributes and spiritual connection to the Motherland. It's the ultimate, we as Ras usually talk about the promised land.
