The popular gospel event, Fun in the Son, will next Monday open a six-day tour of 13 high schools aimed at inspiring teens to nurture their spirituality, while empowering them to establish goals for academic success and personal fulfilment.
According to a news release from the Best Dressed Chicken-sponsored event, the tour will feature a 90-minute programme of worship through word, theatre and music, as well as Pastor Richard Hinds, and gospel ministers Carlene Davis and Kevin Downswell.
"We are thrilled to present the Best Dressed Fun in the Son School Tour," said Christopher Levy, president and CEO of Jamaica Broilers Group, parent company of the sponsor. "This is a great opportunity for us to let our young people know they're not alone. The programme will inspire them to see the power of their own possibilities, and we are honoured to bring them the message of hope and joy, through Jesus Christ."
First held 11 years ago as an alternative to the traditional Spring Break, the Best Dressed Fun in the Son has evolved to become a hugely popular event, with shows in Jamaica and Haiti.
"Jamaica Broilers Group shares our vision. They hosted the Fun in the Son in Haiti this year, and, of course, in 2014 we will have the Best Dressed Fun in Son in Jamaica. With the School Tour we are reinforcing the original vision of strengthening young people through Jesus Christ," said Tommy Cowan, CEO of Glory Music, the event's producer.
Downswell said he was pleased to be a part of the school tour.
"I know the struggles young people face every day. Now, more than ever, they must have a well of spiritual strength, and I am proud to be a part of the cause of arming them for both the triumphs and challenges of life," he said.
"The students," he added, "are in for an experience they will talk about for a long time."
The Best Dressed Fun in the Son School Tour is produced with the support of the Inter-School Christian Fellowship, Youth Reaching Youth, and Prayer 2000, and is endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
