Mickey Rooney dies at 93

ACTOR Mickey Rooney, the pint-sized screen dynamo of the 1930s and 1940s best known for his boy-next-door role in the Andy Hardy movies, died on Sunday aged 93.

Rooney, who was one of the biggest box office stars of the movies' studio era, had reportedly been ill for some time. He died in his Hollywood home surrounded by family.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office said Rooney died a natural death.
