Reggae rolls in Texas
Monday, September 10, 2012
Elephant Man and Maxi Priest are headliners for the September 15-16 Dallas Reggae Festival. Elephant Man is down to perform on opening day while Maxi Priest hits the stage the following day.
Most of the performers on the bill are regional reggae acts.
Still in Texas, Barrington Levy is scheduled to perform on the October 12 Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. Headliners for the event are rock bands, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Weezer.
The show is a spinoff of the widely-popular Austin City Limits, a televised show that exposes underground musicians. Reggae acts including Jimmy Cliff have appeared on the long-running show.
Poster exhibit
The Reggae Poster Contest Exhibition opens September 30 at the National Gallery of Jamaica in Kingston. Approximately 113 posters from the recent International Reggae Poster Competition will be displayed over five days.
Alon Braier, whose entry Roots of Dub, won that contest in May, will attend the exhibition.
Roots of Dub beat 1,142 entries from over 80 countries.
Proceeds from the Reggae Poster Contest Exhibition will go to the Alpha Boys School in Kingston.
