Music videos were not yet part of record companies’ plans during the 1970s. It would not be until the early 1980s with the advent of MTV that visuals became critical to artiste promotion.

Roots singer Ronnie Davis, who made his mark during the 1970s, makes his music video debut with I Won’t Cry.

It is directed by Henry "Sadiki" Buckley Jr, who also produced the song, which is from Davis’ album, Iyahcoustic.

"I’m delighted, never did anything like this before, but I enjoyed it. It’s pushed me out there even more," said Davis.

I Won’t Cry was filmed in the 66-year-old Davis’ native Westmoreland. It is the first release from Iyahcoustic, his fifth solo album, which was released in August by Buckley’s Skinny Bwoy Records.

On it, Davis works with top session guitarist Mitchum ‘Khan’ Chin and percussionist Congo Billy on songs such as
No Weak Heart, False Leaders and Got to Go Home.

Davis is best known for his work with rocksteady group The Tennors (Pressure And Slide) and The Itals (In A Dis Ya Time).
