The Jamaica Observer’sEntertainment section continues its daily 2016 Year In Review, with people who made an impact during the year.

Alkaline continued his dominance of local charts with multiple hits including Champion Boy, Block and Delete, After All, 12 PM (Living Good), Formula and City.

His debut album, New Level Unlocked, was released in late March by DJ Frass Records. When it debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart in April, he became the first dancehall deejay to achieve that feat in five years.

Produced by DJ Frass, the 15-track New Level Unlocked posted first-week sales of 741 copies according to Nielsen Music. To date, it has sold just over 4,000 copies.

New Level Unlocked contains Champion Boy, ATM, City, Side Chick, Direction and Like One. The latter featured American Rhythm And Blues singer Bobby V, formerly known as Bobby Valentino.

Though Alkaline was not on major shows, his multiple releases enjoyed heavy radio rotation on radio and in the clubs.
