Styling with: Courtney John

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

He is fresh from a performance in Wickie Wackie on the St Andrew/ St Thomas border on Sunday night and Reggae crooner, Courtney John says a lot more of this type of performances are in store for lovers of his brand of music — that funky, ecclectic, hybrid sound.

Like his music, Courtney John's sense of style is also that blend, or as he puts it, "it's a mix of everything, fusing the punk rock look with the couture, but at the same time remaining simple and most important, elegant."

He explains further, "right now I'm into shirts and pants with a look from the 1950s and 60s. It's that Harry Belafonte look — back when men looked like men."

His music takes him across the globe and when he travels Counrtney John admits shopping in small boutiques for one of a kind or at least limited edition pieces.

Locally, the singer says he can't go wrong with a Carlton Brown original. "I don't like seeing others wearing clothes I own, and Carlton understands this and therefore can truly custom make for me."

He admits that most of his money is spent on shoes and sunglasses. Currently he taste in shoes extends to the brand Rebel, inspired by screen actor James Dean. He describes the footwear and clean and comfortable with a stylish edge. For sunglasses he says he only rocks aviator shades by Serengeti. As for his scent of choice, these days Courtney John splashes Artisan by John Varvatos — an unusual scent combining citrus with the smell of the tropics.
