There are zombies in Jamaica!

And they may be heading your way!

Friday, February 24, 2012

Relax, they are not real — only in Yosef Imagination's world, anyway. Director Simon 'Sno' Thompson has teamed up with the Priceless Family to produce Zombie Flim, a 10-webisode comedy.

The first 'webisode' is already posted on YouTube with bi-weekly updates planned. Zombie Flim is the brainchild of Aldwayne Tomlinson and Michael Hobbs who both hail from Kingston and are fans of zombie movies which were popular in the United States during the 1970s.

According to Hobbs, he searched the Internet for any production of this nature coming out of Jamaica, but nothing turned up.

"It was just the typical movies or documentaries on politics, drugs, guns and so on. With Zombie Film we are trying to expose different aspects of Jamaica film not just what they are used to," he told Splash.

With no script, Tomlinson and Hobbs said they approached Thompson who is no stranger to 'webisodes' as he had just completed his Konfu Dread series.

Zombie Flim which cost Ja$150 to produce surrounds two youth fighting to survive a zombie apocalypse. Their goal is to make it safely to Tivoli Gardens where they figure there will be enough ammunition to take out the zombies.

Located in West Kingston, Tivoli Gardens has a dubious reputation of producing hardcore enforcers like Vivian Blake and Chrisopher 'Dudus' Coke who were both involved in the Shower possee

Hobbs said going into the project without a script was deliberate.

"Whatever is said is taped on the day, there is no rehearsal. We basically just improvise," he explained.

Director Thompson says viewers will enjoy Zombie Flim's spontaneity, pointing out that there will be no shortage of humour and thrills.

"Our type of comedy is unique and we want to let the world know," he said.

Since the first webisode went up in late January, Thompson said he has received positive feedback, especially from actors inquiring how they can be a part of the project.

While they have not received any financial gain from Zombie Film, Thompson and his colleagues hope the series will open doors for them.
