Thursday, August 02, 2012
APPROXIMATELY 165,000 persons are expected to visit the Jamaica 50 Jubilee Village at the National Stadium car park in
St Andrew.
This was disclosed by Robert Bryan, project director at the Jamaica 50 Secretariat.
The village's activities — which marks Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence — got underway yesterday and will run until August 6, culminating with the Grand Gala.
The area incorporates art and craft displays, food courts, kiddies village, a Jamaica 50 expo inside the National Arena as well as two performances for each day.
Today's performances commence at 1:00 pm with a Mello Go Roun' Lunch Hour Special, which is a prelude to the Mello Go Roun' scheduled for the main stage at 8:00 pm.
Tomorrow, entertainment kicks off at 12:30 pm with Expressions — an exposé of Jamaican music, dance and poetry. This will be followed at 6:30 pm by Jamaica Praise — a gospel music showcase.
Saturday's offering includes music and comedy, fashion show, a tribute to ska and the World Reggae Dance Competition at 9:00 pm.
On Sunday, activities start at midday with a variety concert and will feature big screen televising of the London Olympics. This will continue throughout the day ending, at 1:00 am on Monday.
On Monday, the big screens will also bring the Independence Day happenings from 15 locations across the island.
