INFLUENTIAL toaster Big Youth, bassist/singer Boris Gardiner, and radio personality Winston Williams are this year’s recipients of the Bob Marley One Love Awards.

They are being recognised for their contribution to Jamaica’s music industry.

Conceptualiser Clive ‘Busy’ Campbell said the presentations will be made at two separate functions.

"Big Youth and Winston Williams will receive their awards at the annual Bob Marley One Love Charity Football match at the Constant Spring Football field, St Andrew, on February 13. However, Boris Gardiner who should have been honoured

last year but had a Valentine’s

Day show — will be off the island again. So, he’ll receive his award at our press launch at Cuddy’z Sport Bar in New Kingston on Tuesday, February 5," said Campbell.

Big Youth (given name Manley Buchanan) rose to prominence in the 1970s with hit songs including S-90 Skank and Hit The Road Jack.

Known to many for his 1986 British hit I Want To Wake Up With You, Gardiner also played bass on many hit songs for producers Clement ‘Coxson’ Dodd and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.

Disc jockey Winston Williams’ career spans five decades. He was a mainstay at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation during the 1970s.

Proceeds from the football match will go to the Malvern Basic School in St Elizabeth.
