Turning up the Tempo
Thursday, November 22, 2012
Calypso legend The Mighty Sparrow and reggae great Marcia Griffiths headline the 'Tempo Turns 7' show from November 25-December 1 in St Maarten.
Soca artistes dominate the event which is staged by Tempo Networks, the New Jersey-based cable station that promotes Caribbean pop culture. In addition to Sparrow, there are Alison Hinds, Denise Belfon and Edwin Yearwood, as well as local acts The Mighty Dow, Shadowman and Mr Ruffy.
Reggae singer Duane Stephenson has also been confirmed for the festival. So too Ziggy Ranking, Chucky Gordon and Young Devyn from Trinidad and Tobago.
"We are pleased to welcome the icons and musical stars of the Caribbean to St Maarten and are particularly delighted to note the emphasis on the youth of this country and a tribute to our seniors to whom we are forever grateful," said Romain Laville, vice president of the St Maarten Parliament.
