Carlene Smith, better known as Carlene the Original Dancehall Queen, took the top honours in the fourth staging of the Suncity Radio-promoted Bubble Di Pot Celebrity Cook-Off at the Mandela Park in Half-Way-Tree yesterday.

She teamed with comedian and vlogger Dutty Berry to whip up a breakfast meal which comprised fried crushed green plantains with a salad, fried bammy, saltfish and cucumber.

'It's my first time participating in a cook-off and I really enjoyed the experience. We didn't have the best presentation but we sure had the best taste,” Carlene said with a chuckle.

“Being able to cook is one thing but to have others judge the taste is another thing,” she added.

Carlene will donate her winnings — $25,000 — to her favourite charity which is the Encounter Ministries International located in St Andrew.

Second place went to dancehall act Tifa who teamed with Suncity Sunjock Gary Freestyle, while third place went to the team of dancehall star Tommy Lee Sparta and Suncity presenter Robian Williams.

Finishing in fourth place was the team of reggae artiste Iba Mahr and Suncity's resident Japanese Sunjock Yumi.

Under the theme 'Tun Yuh Hand Mek Fashion', the Suncity Bubble Di Pot Celebrity Cook-Off seeks to highlight the culinary skills of celebrities and the radio station's presenters. All the winners donate their winnings to a charity of their choice.

“It was good partnering with Suncity on this execution. We came on board with three of our brands, Gold Seal Reduced Fat Margarine, Gold Seal Vegan Margarine and our Pronto Cornmeal porridge. Our thrust is to help persons make healthier choices in their meals and easier breakfast options,” said Shanice Barrett, Brand Executive at Seprod.

Senior brand manager at Cari-Med Limited Allison Dexter shared why she got involved with the Scotch Brite brand.

“We wanted to focus on brand awareness and the Suncity Bubble Di Pot Celebrity Cook-Off provided that avenue with exposure not only on the airwaves but also at the execution. It's really value for money with a station such as Suncity.”

Other sponsors were Scotch Brite, Smart Eggs, Wata and Tru-Juice.
