IN a country where dancehall and reggae are embraced, up-and-coming gospel singer Oshane Mais is hopeful that his sound will have the same impact.

“In all honesty, it hasn't been that different. I believe I have been gaining a lot of support since I began in January 2018 and my hope is to [incorporate] all genres of music in efforts to at least reach one person from every category. I believe, with time, I will find my footing as I have a unique fusion of local and international sounds; bridging borders. I am also open to doing dancehall gospel,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

The 23-year-old — who hails from Kingston — is celebrating the release of his latest single, You Reign, produced by Pioneer Music. The single was released on Tuesday.

“I really hope that this single will find persons in their quiet place or even take them to their quiet place as they reflect on the sacrifice,” he explained.

The singer explained the inspiration behind the set.

“I was really inspired by the sacrifice that God made for us by dying on the cross for our sins and also a desire to remind people of the sacrifice through a soothing melody,” he said.

His said his involvement in music began at eight, while attending Chisholm Avenue Seventh-Day Church of God.

Mais, a 2017 graduate of The University of the West Indies, holds a Bachelor of Science in International Relations. He made his debut in 2018 with Forever.

He, however, expects to make music a permanent career choice.

“I am not a full-time artiste just yet, I currently work as an administration assistant and corporate trainer,” he said.

He is working on a yet-to-be titled EP to be released this year.
