After being held in Mandeville for the past two years, the Sterling Gospel Music Awards is moving to Kingston. The third staging takes place Saturday at Knutsford Court Hotel.

Founder and director of the event, Basillia Barnaby-Cuff, explained the decision to relocate during an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

“The move from Mandeville to Kingston was really a call from our fans who haven't been able to attend the awards and to be a part of the celebration. We decided that this year, we would oblige and take advantage of the move,” she said.

This year's theme is 'Royally Saluting Our Legends'. There are 18 categories including Album of The Year, Male Artiste of The Year, Female Artiste of The Year, Group of The Year, Video of The Year, Caribbean Artiste of The Year and International Artiste of The Year.

“Some of the winners are determined by website voting and text message, while others are judged by the Sterling Awards committee which comprises industry experts,” Barnaby-Cuff explained.

“We will be honouring eight of our veteran gospel artistes. They are Papa San, Stitchie, Sandra Brooks, Shirley Willis, Martin's Heritage, Grace Thrillers, Carlene Davis and Joan Flemmings,” she continued.

Among the performers for Saturday's ceremony are Ryan Mark, Stichie, Oshane Mais, Kevin Heath, Rhoda Isabella and Kadidia.
