Winston “Merritone” Blake to get posthumous honour

Musicologist and sound system legend Winston “Merritone” Blake will be honoured at the 20th annual Merritone Family Fun Day tomorrow at Heckscher State Park in Long Island, New York.

Conroy Allison, co-founder and CEO of the Merritone Family Fun Day said a commemorative album featuring 20 of Blake's favourite songs will be packaged and given to the first 1000 patrons at the event.

The album contains songs like Lady Soul by The Temptations; Rain From The Sky (Adam Wade); I Am In Love With You (Beres Hammond); Suavito (Pachico); What One Dance Can Do (Beres Hammond) and Love Me Forever by his wife Cynthia Schloss.

Blake and his three brothers operated the Merritone sound system for over 50 years until his death in February 2016 at age 75. They also ran the Turntable Club in St Andrew for 28 years.

Among the acts booked to perform at Merritone Family Fun Day are Nadine Sutherland, Tinga Stewart and Pluto Shervington.
