DETECTIVES from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) yesterday arrested and charged a medical doctor and the mother of a 12-year-old girl for procuring an abortion on Wednesday, July 4.
The doctor has been charged for procuring abortion and administering drugs to procure abortion, while the 32-year-old mother was charged for procuring abortion as well as cruelty to a child and failure to make a report to the Children’s Registry.
Reports are that about 3:30 pm, the woman took her daughter, who was four months pregnant, to the doctor’s office, where the abortion was performed. The matter was later brought to the attention of the police, who went to the mother’s home. Lawmen brought the child to CISOCA then to the Kingston Public Hospital after the minor reported that she was in pain. Following investigations, the two were charged.
