LAS VEGAS, USA (AP) — Police suspect a driver was drunk and speeding when his vehicle went airborne and hit a Las Vegas bus stop, killing four people and injuring eight others.

Las Vegas police Seargeant Richard Strader says several people were in the vehicle and had to be extricated following the crash a little before 6:30 am today on Spring Mountain Road east of Decatur Boulevard.

Clark County Fire Department officials say some of those injured have life-threatening injuries. Roads were closed in the area as emergency crews responded to the scene.

Authorities say the driver has a collapsed lung and possibly a broken back. Emergency responders say they smelled alcohol on his breath.
