KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 60-year-old man has been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of a quantity of ganja at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston last Monday.

He has been identified as Peter Orett, watchman of May Pen, Clarendon.

Orett has been charged with illegal possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps preparatory to export ganja.

He reportedly sent a parcel of assorted processed foods to a shipping agency at the airport for shipment to England.

Forty-five tins containing compressed ganja were discovered in the shipment.

According to the police, when Orett went last Thursday to pay the shipper he was arrested.

The ganja weighs approximately 22.5 pounds and has an estimated street value of $90,000.

Orett is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
