KINGSTON, Jamaica — The recent police killing of Kayann Lamont in Yallahs, St Thomas has inspired Reggae chanter Anthony B to pen a new single condemning the act.

Speaking to the Jamaica Observer from his hotel room in the United Kingdom, where he is scheduled to perform this weekend, Anthony B said the single was inspired through his own personal experience with police excesses and condemned the incident.

"I have been one artiste who has been the victim of police abuse. I have never been a disrespectful artiste, who sing songs that incite violence or anarchy. I am just an outspoken person," he said.

"When I first heard of the recent police killing of the two sisters, in my country of Jamaica and knowing that one of them was only a month away from having a new born baby; I say to myself, this is too much now. When will we take a firm stand, to stop this innocent slaying of our people," he added.

Lamont, who was eight months pregnant, was on the weekend relating an incident where she was robbed of cash to purchase back to school supplies and a cell phone when she used 'bad words'.

Her rants drew the attention of Corporal Dwight Smart, who attempted to arrest her.

During a tussle that followed Lamont was shot twice in the head and died on the spot while her sister Novia Lamont was shot in the shoulder. Another sister it is reported escaped injury after seeking refuge behind a bystander.
