NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC) — The Bahamas said it has signed air services agreement with Qatar, Australia and Finland, bringing to 11, the number of such agreements signed with countries in recent time.

Tourism and Aviation Minister Dionisio D'Aguilar said the latest agreements were signed during the 10th session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation's Air Services Negotiation event (ICAN 2017) that ended here this week.

ICAN provides countries with a central meeting place to conduct multiple bilateral air services negotiations or consultations. Since its inception, it has served as an efficient platform for conducting air service negotiations.

A government statement noted that the Bahamas held “fruitful negotiations with South Africa, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Austria, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Switzerland, Chile and Jordan, where Memoranda of Understanding were signed.

“It is expected that full Air Service Agreements will soon be signed with those countries.

Discussions also commenced with Civil Aviation representatives from Haiti,” the statement noted.
