Bartlett offers assistance to Irwin rape victims
Wednesday, September 26, 2012 | 7:17 AM
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica - Member of Parliament for East Central St James Edmund Bartlett says he was thrown into a state of shock after receiving news of last night’s rape of five females aged 8, 14, 16, 23 and 28 in the Irwin Point area of the constituency.
Bartlett urged residents to cooperate fully with the police in ensuring that the criminals who “perpetrated the ghastly and inhumane crimes are brought to book swiftly”.
The MP also said that he will go beyond the call of duty to ensure that the victims and their family get the necessary assistance required in dealing with the trauma that they are no doubt experiencing. He also urged the Government to pull on all resources available to assist the victims and their families.
Bartlett insisted that Government must “as a matter of urgency redouble its efforts to contain the rising crime and violence across the country.”
