Blake praises courage, bravery of policeman

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Acting Commissioner of Police, Clifford Blake is this morning praising the courage and bravery of a police officer who was shot three times while trying to thwart a robbery and save lives in the Newlands area of Portmore, St Catherine last night.

OBSERVER ONLINE understands that the police constable was among a group of people playing dominoes in Portmore when the establishment in which they were located was invaded by three men, one armed with a gun.

The policeman then took on the armed robber, trying to take away the weapon but, in his effort to disarm the robber, was shot in the left hand, the foot and abdomen. The robbers fled the scene.

He was rushed to hospital where he was admitted. When checks were made, hospital personnel told OBSERVER ONLINE that the policeman was in stable condition.

“This policeman is to be commended for his quick and decisive action in protecting others despite the many risks involved.

“I again ask all members of the constabulary to be vigilant and careful whether on or off duty.

“I wish the officer a speedy recovery,” Assistant Commissioner Blake said.
