KINGSTON, Jamaica — British-Jamaican designer Grace Wales Bonner has been named the winner of the 2019 BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund worth 200,000.

Wales Bonner, 28, designed the trench dress worn by Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, when she and husband Prince Harry introduced their newborn son, Archie Harrison, to the world on May 8.

According to Wales Bonner's website, her work is “informed by broad research encompassing critical theory, musical composition, literature and history".

It also says her brand “embraces a multiplicity of perspectives, proposing a distinct notion of luxury, via a hybrid of European and Afro-Atlantic approaches”.

The 'Wales Bonner' label was launched in 2014 as a menswear label but soon expanded to womenswear.

Prior to winning the BFC/ Vogue Fashion Fund, which is dedicated to supporting young talent, the designer was awarded Emerging Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards in 2015 and received the LVMH Young Designer Prize a year later.
