British woman held with cocaine at Sangster airport

ST JAMES, Jamaica — A British woman is facing multiple charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act following her arrest on Wednesday in connection with the seizure of 1.6 kilograms of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport in St James.

Reports from police at the airport are that the woman was checking in to board a flight destined for Birmingham, England when her luggage was checked and the drug was found concealed in the lining of her suitcase.

The drug has an estimated street value of J$2,048,000.

She remains in police custody as arrangements are being made for her to be interviewed in the presence of her attorney.
