POPULAR Jamaican deejay Busy Signal, who fled the US to avoid a drug trial a decade ago, made his first court appearance in the Minnesota case today.

Busy Signal, whose real name is Glendale Goshia Gordon, was detained in London by immigration officials who suspected he was traveling on false documents and then arrested last month as he disembarked a plane at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

Busy Signal was arrested in Minneapolis in January 2002, and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine. He fled to Jamaica before trial.

Gordon waived his right to an extradition hearing.

He is due to be formally charged next week.
