Chattoo poised to give Calabar first points at Champs 2014
KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Shakiel Chattoo seems poised to give Calabar their first final win, as he continues to lead the Decathlon at the ISSA/GraceKenneddy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Chattoo with 4,508 points has slightly extended his lead over Excelsior’s Maurice Harrison 4,356 and Kingston College’s Shaquille Shaw 4,298. The top six is rounded off by Shamar Morrison (4290) of Jamaica College, Amaudo Oconner (3960) of Buff Bay and Orelle Bulgin (3615) of Cornwall College.
The athletes had earlier completed the 110 metre hurdles and the discus throw. They will move on to the pole vault then the Javelin, with the 1500 metre closing the gruelling 10-discipline event.
Fifteen competitors started the event, but that number was cut to 14 when Jordain Waite of St Jago, who was in second place at one point, was forced to pull out suffering a hamstring injury after the long jump event.
