China, Jamaica partner on 3-year project for sport development

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport will tomorrow sign a Letter of Exchange with the People's Republic of China for the provision of coaching and sport equipment in six sporting disciplines.

According to a release from the ministry, the Chinese government has agreed to a three-year technical cooperation project on sport with Jamaica, the first phase of which will see China sending coaches to Jamaica for a one-month period in January 2018.

While here, the coaches will conduct specialised training in gymnastics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, football and badminton.

According to the release, a group of about 150 Jamaicans made up of athletes, coaches and officials will subsequently visit China and participate in intensive training sessions. The cooperation project runs from January 2018 to December 2020.

The signing will take place at the Jamaica Pegasus, between Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange and Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Niu Qingbao.
