Conch closed season begins March 1

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries has declared a closed season for queen conch for the period March 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020.

People in possession of conch meat and /or conch opercula must therefore make two declarations as follows:

The first should be made no later than March 7, 2019, and the second should be made no later than March 28, 2019, the ministry said,

According to a release from the ministry all declarations of conch products in storage must satisfy the following conditions:

1. Made in writing on the standard declaration form entitled “Declaration of Conch Products in Storage”

2. Duly signed and dated by the person making the declaration

3. The original must be sent to, The Licensing Authority, Fisheries Division, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, 2c Newport East, Kingston 11.

4. In addition to the original, scanned copies may be sent by email to . The subject of the email should read, “Declaration of Conch in Storage”.
