KINGSTON, Jamaica — A cop was charged with corruption yesterday after he allegedly solicited more than $50,000 from a motorist over a two-year period.

Corporal Fitzroy Bennett was arrested during a sting operation on March 19 and charged with breaches of the Corruption Act Tuesday night.

Reports from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) are that Bennett arrested a motorist for breaches of the Road Traffic Act but solicited $52,000 from him in order to have the matter thrown out of court.

Bennett requested an additional $10,000 from the motorist who contacted the (ACB) leading to a sting operation and Bennett’s subsequent arrest.

Following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions he was charged with three counts of corruptly soliciting and four for corruptly accepting.

Bennett was granted bail of $300,000 to reappear in court on June 11th.
