KINGSTON, Jamaica — A new witness testified on Wednesday afternoon that Constable Rushton Hamilton confessed to him of killing Jhaneel Goulbourne, the 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped outside her Harbour View home in 2008.

The witness, who described himself as a businessman, said Hamilton told him in November of 2008 that he (Hamilton), a police friend of his and another man took the girl out to sea in a boat where he shot her and dumped her body.

The witness told the court that Hamilton made the confession while both men shared a cell at the Central Police Station in downtown with two other policemen.

He said that before making the confession Hamilton asked him if he think that God would forgive a person who committed a willful act of sin.

The witness said he told Hamilton that God was a forgiving.

He said some time after the confession he heard Hamilton talking on a cell phone inside the lock up about the girl's killing.

On a day, after that, the witness testified, a cell mate at Central Police Station told Hamilton that the girl was found.

Hamilton remarked that he was 99.99 per cent certain that she could not be found, the witness told the court. 

A sister of Gouldbourne's wept as the witness gave his evidence and had to be comforted by a prosecutor.

Hamilton on the other hand just sat there in the prisoner's dock taking notes.

The trial continues on Thursday.
