Cops beg Dudus, Livety to turn themselves in

George Phang wanted too

AFTER two botched operations to capture wanted Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, the police have resorted to pleading with him to hand himself in.

In a release to the media today, police named Coke and his brother Leighton Coke, also called 'Livety', among 13 gang leaders who they are asking to turn themselves in.

Hours before dawn this morning, police went to a premises in the upscale community of Kirkland Heights in upper St Andrew, after they gained intelligence that Coke was hiding out there.

After about two hours of gunfire, Keith Clarke, the brother of former People's National Party member of parliament Claude Clarke, lay dead, while four Jamaica Defence Force soldiers were injured.

It is not clear if Coke was anywhere near the house as police have been tight-lipped about the incident. The Bureau of Special Investigations is probing the incident.

The police have also asked Arnett Gardens area leader, George Phang, to turn himself him.

Other gang leaders wanted by the police are Donovan Ainsworth otherwise called 'Pepsi' and Delano Walker, also called 'Fidel' of a Central Kingston community known as 'Tel Aviv';Anthony Harding also called 'Prince Pow' of the POW Crew; Earl Brown, also called 'Chun' of Top Road; Jermaine Layne also called 'Cutter' of Bryden Street; Everton Douglas also called 'Fuba' and Troy Ricketts also called 'Okra' of Jacques Road; Michael Ewan also called 'Mikey One Two' of Goodwich Lane; Michael Murray also called 'Bizzy' and Andrew Salmon also called 'Alcapone' of Hypolite Road in Rockfort, East Kingston.

Yesterday 11 wanted men turned themselves in to the police after they were named among 23 most wanted persons. A police source at the St Andrew North Police Division said members of the Common gang appeared shaky and nervous when they turned up at the Constant Spring Police Station.

"They appeared very nervous. It just goes to show that many of these so called gangsters are really cowards and have no guts. The police mean business this time around," the source said.

Where r the guns? The guns were taken by those who escaped or were given shelter and hidden by the women in the area. Like it always is. The JDF doesn't have a track record of atrocities. Where the 7000 bullet dem come from if there were no guns? The state forces finally have the go ahead to clean up the country which had over a 1000 murders last yr. I didn't hear these people bitching last week when they cut the throat of the Loshuan businesswoman or the cops and soldiers?

This search for Dudus is turning into something similar to the search for Ben Ladin. Dem need fi check di caves he might be chilling Ben Ladin. Bruce Golding stall and gave DUdus time to run. As soon as the international media take their eyes off Jamaica they are going to go right back to the same old thing. Rounding up these criminals that we all knew about for many years now is just for show. By di way, George Phang nuh suppose bout 220 year old now, him still a bad?

We choose our politicians according to the hue of their skin, kill our neighbors in favor of men and women who live upon the hill, degrade our currency because it is not valued as much as the American dollar, encourage nastiness even when we know how wrong it is, then say we run things. And after all that we refuse to even attempt to separate ourselves from the ignorance that has so long beset us because of our laziness. Dudus? we created him from our own greed and then we dare mention Jesus

Denial is one of the most insidious mental maladies; and it afflicts us as black folks to unbelievable proportions. I love my home and I love people, but I will not seek to deny who my people are. Our history is one of beauty, giftedness, enterprise, but also our history is one of almost barbarism, wretchedness, self-hate and a sense of entitlement that baffles even the most brilliant minds. We wave machetes like swords of honor against our own, pride ourselves on how 'the man chop up de man;' t

Are all of you that stupid that none of you have asked one simple question. What are these men being charged for? I dont care who the leader of the gang is. If there is no proof that they committed a crime then why are you wasting the tax payers money in arresting them. Besides every idiot who has studied criminal justice knows that once a leader is killed or arrested he is immediately replaced with more times a less experienced and not as smart a leader.

Sin is at the root of it all; greed, ignorance and the unbelievable arrogance that exemplies so many of us as human beings. The licky licky mentality of our people make us easy prey for a person such as Dudus and the need for power and immortality makes Dudus easy prey for other power seekers calling themselves politicians. We have sought to be like America; our chickens have come home to roost. The Dudus' have been in the making and those forever seeking handouts have placed him on their throne

Did we not hear on national radio Monday night that it was confirmed that Livety was killed?
What does this say about the quality of journalism in Jamiaca? I have learnt not to believe everything I hear on the radio and read in the press.

The choice of words by Mr Vaz, lead me to think otherwise. Mr Vaz said it was "unclear" if Mr coke was in Jamaica.

I am not convinced that the government really intends to capture Dudus. I believe the man fled long ago since they made it public that he was to be extradited. This is all a smokescreen now to make it appear that criminals are being captured and people should relax and worry no longer. I believe Dudus will go the way of Bin Laden. We won't find him and after all the raids and killings, we will forget the reason why the raids began in the first place.

this is really a massacre! how can u kill so many people and only have 4 guns? 4 guns from 70+ bodies that means all those people who were killed were not armed? so who were you fighting with? they were throwing stones? weh all the GUNman dem deh ?

Bruce and the government allow Dudus to escape by their lack of Leadership .Why give Dudus nine months plus a further 36 hours to escape? If Dudus is smart which I believe he is he should give him self up.dont let his own people kill him to cover up. "take a plea bargain and live"

What a hypocrital headline? The leaders and the security force know that they will not surrender. Had I been in DUDUS shoes I would not give myself to the local authorities. Reasons being the leaders would want me DEAD. I would surrender to the US and SING like a bird. I know dudus will be dead before he gets a chance to sing. U all watch and C. LIKE FADA LIKE SON. History will repeat itself. Take that from me.

Why not ask the PM to turn them in? So people can just call in to report that Coke is at their enemy's premises and that's the end of them? Ever heard of red herring? Come on guys....do better than that.

Security forces could not go in certain communities without politicians approval.Certain persons include bigman and dons they cannot touch even if they wanted to.Corruption from top to bottom. Intelligence gathering needs to improve significantly

The people of Tivoli don’t want Bruce and the NDM don’t want him either. We beleived him and he lied (brusamooded us) Bruce’s Political career is over. What a disappointment Golding turned out to be!!!

It is appalling and shocking to see innocent civilians of my country being chastised, traumatised and murdered. Furthermore, I think the death rate has being suppressed; the police make known that there has been at least 100 deaths. However, base on the lack of credibility we have with the police force I assumed the death rate is higher than what has been reported. From this vital lesson learn I hope Jamaicans will be much wiser in that they no longer enslave themselves as being guinea pigs.

It may be too late now!! Dudus could have turned himself over to the Americans if he is convicted work out a plea bargain with the US prosecutors and tell all he knows of the crimes (corruption, drugs and gun running) of politicians and of those who parade themselves as respectable citizens. After returning from US jail he could have returned to Tivoli, become an MP or even the Prime Minister (especially if he find god and become a Christian). Some might be waiting to hear that Dudus is dead so they can sleep well. Lesson well learnt from this saga. If the government wants to stop/curtail crime it can be done. Dudus learn that you can’t trust politicians and YOU CAN’T FIGHT THE STATE.

Im not going to sit here and say the JDF and Police did a great job , they're the one who help mash up the Country , they know these guys was breaking the law and do nothing about it , Itsn't that there job to arrest Criminals and bring them to justice ??????????/

Bruce has done a good job by ordering the killing of innocent people, and the big raid on tivoli and other communities only produce four guns. If all these people were gunmen where are the guns? And if this was a war how come the casualities are higher on the civillian side? And why are they not allowing the people to come out of their houses or to talk to the press? The Gov need to be held responsible for the senseless loss of lives. They do not want to arrest dudus they want to silence him.

The results of the operation that killed Keith Clarke this morning shows that there is no intention for Dudus to be taken alive. Another innocent life lost due to "kick dung door and spray" policing . Is tear gas not used in Jamaica anymore?

Whenever they capture these "dons" they should ship them off to Iraq or Afganistan see how long they will last. They are nothing but a bunch of cowards. I want the JDF to continue the pressure, show no mercy, clean up Kingston, once and for all.

Amazing!! How long did the police knew about these area leader so called don? Wow! The police are making a fool of themselves now, these men should have already been in custody before this operation in TG. These are guys that are well, well known to the police, people don't be shock now. Every police/military/politicians know about these guys way before this list is so called publish.

Kudos!! to the law enforcement, they're doing a terrific job.
However, I thought their primary mission was to " get Dudus" the mission seems to have changed. They're gathering up all the gang leaders except Dudus. Is it, "can't ketch cwacoo, ketch im shut?" The police have a long list of these known gang leaders. Why didn't they round the up before now? The mission now seems to be "Cleaning Up The Slums" rather than focusing on the apprehension of Dudus. I blame the PM for the casualties.

I am really amazed and impressed with the way the security forces are trying to curtail the entire situation islanwide...they are asking kindly that these wanted men turn themselves over to be processed. We all know they wont; and as a result will be hunted. My only concern is that human rights group seem to come to the defence of these men whenevr they're killed but if and when I am killed for writing this they are not seen. Last year was a record for murders where were they? Full support JDF!!

The PM, has done his Job. He should be commended. Dont stop @ TG, go into Sister P. power base, Phiilps, power base and round up of all the political gangsters. Leave no stone unturned. The PM will be remembered at the end of the day as the only leader that has the guts to move into his own power base and do the rt. thing. History will reward him kindly. Leave the PM alone. Pray for him. You have my support mr PM and the good Police men and women of Jamaica, Keep up the good work.

I hope the Observer allow these comments to go through. They seem to have something against me.
Why appeal to these gangsters to turn themselves in? It is obvious that they are hell bent of running and wreaking havoc in Jamaica. The security forces should continue to gather intelligence and flush out these cowards. They should not relent in their efforts!

This whole matter has been conducted very poorly. Dudus is the only person who doesn't act like a complete idiot, him gone!
1. To PM, Never announce you are gonna execute a warrant on National Television.
2. Cops, Never show pictures and give reports of the weaponry in any Garrison and then only show up with four guns after 70+ die
3. Jamaicans, never act so anti-garrison when ALL of our yute are either screaming "Gaza" or "Gully". lucky dem neva want Kartel or there would be even more blood

This sounds like twins of twins, which president, a couldn't dudus dem a talk. Bruce continues to be in the darkness, Vaz is hopeless and Nelson behind time.
Dudus is not a man who would be running all over the place. Send Bruce fi go look fi him.

5/27/2010
Why is the headline phrased that way? What is wrong with asking wanted fugitives to turn themselves in? The police are dealing with stubborn lawless people that's why it always ends in bloodshed. It is sometimes said that people get the rulership they deserve. Some Jamaicans only know how to be cowed and respond to nothing else.

I wish they would stop this stupidness about catching Dudus. It's either they are stupid, or they think we are stupid. Dudus ha NINE MONTHS to plan for this. Do you think he would have been sitting waiting for the cops to come and get him in Tivoli? Anybody who bellieves that, is a retard. This entire operation in Tivoli was aimed at Tivoli not at Dudus. It's like Iraq and Saddam. Dudus is not as stupid as the police, nor the rest of you who thought he was waiting to be arrested. He lloves life.

This is an exercise in futility, because nearly all these persons will have to be released when the state of emergency runs its course. The only advantage is detaining these persons, may temporarily allow the security forces to reduce the current rise in violent activities.
If Coke is not on his way out of Jamaica by now, he is a dead man. We want him alive to point fingers at the dirty people at the top of the food chain.

Do not relent, security forces! If these men do not give themselves in soon, root them out like rabbits from holes. Jamaica cannot tolerate any more gunmen and any more dons extorting money, killing people, ordering the killing of people, and brainwashing our youth and people! Jamaica is bleeding and it needs a bandage! Enough is enough, we are tired of the foolishness. All we want is peace and love, and these men won't let us have it.
