Elderly woman dies in Clarendon crash

CLARENDON, Jamaica — An elderly woman has succumbed to injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle collision along the Swansea main road in Clarendon on Monday, October 7.

She is 77-year-old Ophneth Ritchie, a retiree of Ontario, Canada and Knockpatrick in Manchester.

According to the police, Ritchie was among three occupants in a Toyota Rav 4 motorcar which was travelling eastwards, when on reaching a section of the roadway, the driver reportedly overtook a line of traffic and collided with Toyota Crown motorcar travelling in the opposite direction.

The crash happened about 10:20 am.

Ritchie and another passenger sustained injuries and were taken to hospital where she died while undergoing treatment. The other passenger was treated and released.

The police said the investigation is ongoing.
