FNO rush on ATL flat screen TVs

KINGSTON, Jamaica — About 200 television sets at Appliance Traders’ Limited’s (ATL) Kingston branch disappeared from shelves in under an hour this morning as shoppers took advantage of Jamaica Observer Celebrates Fashion’s Night Out (FNO).
Although the event officially begins at 5:00pm, ATL got an early start at 8:00am, offering 50 per cent off the price on a Panasonic 31 inch LCD TV – out of stock by the time the Jamaica Observer got there at 9:00am.
Arrangements are being made for customers who did not get to cash in on the deal, ATL’s public relations officer, Tonya Russell said.
“More inventory is expected to come in,” product manager Delano Barnett agreed, adding that the number of customers swarming the store is “unexpected and unprecedented”.
Indeed, it appears that appliances are just as fashionable as clothing as shoppers waited in three long lines to pay for chosen items this morning.
More sales representatives and cashiers have been called in to better manage the shopping experience, Barnett said.
The sale will continue into the weekend depending on the available stock, Russell added.
Among other items, the store also offers discounts on washing machines and dryers, stoves and refrigerators.
