Fire destroys shops in Charles Gordon Market

ST JAMES, Jamaica -- Fire of unknown origin destroyed five shops in the Charles Gordon Market in Montego Bay, St James yesterday.

Reports from the Barnett Street police are that about 3:45 pm people saw fire coming from one of the shops and called the police and the fire department. The fire however spread to the other shops before fire fighters from the Freeport Fire Department arrived and extinguished the blaze.

An estimate of the loss has not yet been ascertained. It is also unknown whether the shops or contents were insured.
