KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Member of Parliament for St Catherine South, Fitz Jackson has been elected the new Chairman of the People's National Party (PNP).

PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson tweeted moments ago that Jackson had defeated his sole challenger for the job, Anthony Hylton, gaining 187 votes from the party's National Executive Council (NEC) to Hylton's 79.

Jackson becomes the sixth chairman of the PNP, after the longstanding chairman, Robert Pickersgill, affectionately called "Chairman Fi Life", retired.

Horace Dalley, who defeated Patricia Sutherland by 156 votes to 100, has become the deputy chairman.
