Five men arrested as cops seize guns in three parishes

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting that arrest of five men in connection with the seizure of several firearms and a cache of ammunition in separate incidents in three parishes this week . 

In Trelwany, two firearms were seized in two separate incidents.

The first incident happened along the Bounty Hall main road on Tuesday.

Reports from the Falmouth police are that about 11:45 pm, officers were on patrol when a man was seen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion.

He was subsequently accosted, searched and one Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing twelve 9mm rounds of ammunition was taken from his waistband, the police said. He was then arrested. 

The second seizure took place on Cooper's Pen main road in the parish on Wednesday.

The police said that about 10:30 pm, officers were on patrol when they observed a man with a bulge in his waistband. He was searched and one Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition was taken from him.

He has since been identified as 23-year-old Franz Codner, otherwise called 'Frass', a plumber of Retreat Heights in the parish.

According to the police, Codner was charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. His court date is being finalised.  

In Hanover, also on Wednesday,  the Lucea police seized a .45 Taurus pistol and two magazines during a raid at premises in Ramble district in the parish.

Two men were taken into custody, however, their identities are being withheld pending further investigations. 

Wednesday's seizures continued in Kingston, when about 5:00 am, a 9mm Browning pistol with a magazine containing fourteen 9mm rounds of ammunition was seized by the police during an operation on Barry Street. The police said no arrest was made in relation to the seizure.  

And on Thursday, November 7, about 1:15 am, a police team conducted an operation on Providence Pen Lane in St Andrew where one Glock magazine and forty-two 9mm rounds of ammunition were seized.

The police said a man was taken into custody in relation to the seizure but his identity is being withheld at this time.  Investigators continue to probe the cases.
