Flash Flood Watch continues

Sunday, September 30, 2012 | 8:40 AM

KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Meteorological Service has continued the Flash Flood Watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of all parishes until 5:00 pm today.

A Flash Flood Watch means that sudden flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.

The area of low pressure remains over the western Caribbean and continues to influence weather conditions across Jamaica.

Although there has been a reduction in rainfall activity overnight Saturday, periods of showers and thunderstorms are still expected over most parishes this afternoon and tonight, the Meteorological Office said

Showers could be heavy at times and as a result, flash flooding is possible over low-lying and flood-prone areas. Significant improvement is not expected until late Monday.

Fishers and other marine interests are being advised to exercise caution as strong, gusty winds could be experienced in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms.
