Flow probes widespread outage, says service restored to 90% of customers

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Flow Jamaica says it is investigating the disruption in its fixed telecommunication services in several sections of the island yesterday.

The company also informed in a statement this afternoon that services have been restored to over 90 per cent of affected customers in sections of Kingston and St Andrew, Mandeville, Ocho Rios and St Thomas.

People working from home and children attending online classes due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic were impacted by the major outage, which affected hundreds of home phone and broadband customers.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers who were impacted by this outage. We're mindful of the importance of our services for working from home, home schooling and staying connected while we practice social distancing during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Flow Jamaica Country Manager, Stephen Price.

“Our technical team worked through the afternoon and last night to get services up and running. We have done a lot of work to ensure the stability and reliability of the network and it is regrettable that we've had this disruption, especially during this time. We have already launched a full investigation into the matter. Our commitment is to quickly resolve the issues when they arise to get our customers back online as quickly as possible,” Price continued.

The company said its technical team continues to restore services to the remaining customers and is monitoring the network to quickly respond if further issues arise.

The company added that it is continuing its network expansion projects as it continues to meet the increased demand brought on by the measures to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
