KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Mayor of Mandeville Leopold Porter died on Tuesday after a long illness, the Manchester Parish Council confirmed today.

Porter served as Mayor of Mandeville and chairman of the Manchester Parish Council from 1990 to 1998. During those years he was the parish councillor for the Spur Tree Division representing the People’s National Party (PNP).

Mayor of Mandeville Brenda Ramsay (PNP- Bellefield Division) remembered Porter as a “hard working” and “principled” person who was always “immaculately dressed”.

 “He was a man of his word, once he gave you his word it was his bond,” she said yesterday.

Ramsay said Porter brought his penchant for hard work and his integrity to the Manchester Parish Council and served “with distinction”.

“I’ve always said that while he was short in stature, he was a man of distinction,” said Ramsay.
