Kingston, Jamaica— Former industry and commerce minister, Douglas Vaz, died early this morning.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement a short while ago on social media.

According to the prime minister, Vaz, who was 83, passed away in this sleep.

Vaz served as the industry and commerce minister in a former JLP administration.

He is also the father of current minister without portfolio in the ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Daryl Vaz.
