Forte, Jackson qualify for 200m finals

BARCELONA, Spain — Julian Forte and Shericka Jackson have both qualified for their respective 200m finals after the semi-finals earlier in the afternoon session of the third day of the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium here.

Both battled strong headwinds of over 2 meters per second and were automatic qualifiers for the finals that will be run Friday afternoon.

Forte, who travelled to Barcelona from the MV camp in Italy on Monday to join the team, eased to a 20.83 seconds clocking into a -2.8m/s wind to win his heat over the American Aaron Ernest- 21.06 seconds.

Delano Williams, the Western Champs and Boys Champs sprint double champion also qualified for the final, finishing second in his semi-final heat in 20.94 seconds (-4.5m/s) behind Poland’s Karol Zalewski who ran a personal best 20.93 seconds.

Jackson, who got off to a poor start and ran a slow curve, was forced to chase the leaders, finishing second in her semi-final heat in 23.58 seconds (124m/s).

Jodean Williams, who ran a personal best 23.88 seconds in the morning’s first round, was fourth in her semi-final heat in 23.94 seconds (-0.8 m/s).
