Fruit vendor shot dead in Portmore, another man injured

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A fruit vendor was killed by unknown assailants while another was injured during a shooting incident on Cottage Drive, Gregory Park in Portmore, St Catherine yesterday afternoon.

Dead is 33-year-old Fabian Benjamin, otherwise called 'Juba', who lived on the same street where he was shot.

Reports from the Caymanas police are that Benjamin and another man were standing at a fruit stall about 12:10 pm, when it is alleged that five armed men approached them and opened gunfire.

The police were summoned and on their arrival both Benjamin and the other man were seen with gunshot wounds and taken to hospital. Benjamin was subsequently pronounced dead and the other victim admitted in serious but stable condition.

Investigations continue.
