KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is reminding hunters that the game bird season will end on Sunday, September 23 at 9:00am.

As such, anyone caught hunting during the closed season will be prosecuted under the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA), NEPA warned in a release on Friday. A maximum fine of $100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months is applicable for breaches of the WLPA, the watchdog agency said.

All hunters who were issued a hunter's licence for the 2018 season are now required submit a completed Hunter's Bird Shooting Report Form to NEPA by December 31 this year, the agency added.

Forms that are not fully completed will be returned and hunters who do not submit a completed form by December 31, 2018 will be required to pay a late processing fee of $5,000 before the granting of any other hunter's licence in the future.

Meanwhile, members of the public are urged to report any case of illegal hunting to NEPA via telephone at 876-754-7540 or toll-free 1-888-991-5005 or the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
