BARCELONA, Spain — Despite season’s best runs from Chrissann Gordon and Olivia James, Jamaica’s disappointing day at the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, Spain continued as they failed to medal, extending the dry spell to three finals without a podium finish.
Gordon was seventh with 52.31 seconds and James eighth in 52.68 seconds.
Jamaica came into the session with high expectations with six athletes qualifying in five finals and hopes were that they would increase the medal count from the two won up to last night.
Earlier Javarn Gallimore and Shericka Jackson also finished outside the medals in the men’s 400m hurdles and women’s 200m finals respectively.
On a positive note 400m hurdler Janieve Russell has advanced to the finals after an easy looking 57.23 seconds clocking to win her semi-final heat, telling reporters afterwards she was “surprised” at the fast time she had run.
The final will be run tomorrow afternoon.
Meanwhile, Chanice Porter was competing in the women’s long jump finals while Julian Forte will contest the men’s 200m final later tonight.
