Govt allocates US$2.5m for JTB advertisements
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The government has approved US$2.5 million in additional funding to conduct overseas advertisements for the Jamaica Tourist Board.
Information Minister Sandrea Falconer said the funds will be provided by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).
"This is not new money," Falconer told journalists at Wednesday's Post Cabinet press briefing held at Jamaica House.
The advertisements will be developed for the upcoming winter tourist season. Falconer said a new concept will be developed to replace the 'Once You Go You Know' campaign which has been running for the past ten years.
The information minister added that a portion of funds will also go towards the redesigning the current web portal and to increasing focus on social media usage in communicating.
Tourism Minister Wykeham McNeill recently reported an increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the current winter season, with Jamaica having recently welcomed its 2 millionth visitor.
